I installed HWmonitor to check temps and fan rpm, I was playing dota2, minimized to look at temps out of curiosity and experienced a massive crash.. keep in mind this is a newly built pc with very few files and normal cpu temps, never higher than 45 celsius. After i recovered from my shock and nearly pissing my pants I immediately ran virus scan and uninstalled hwmonitor... and i know this is a pretty common hardware monitor but can anyone relate to this in any way ??

I doubt hardwaremonitor was the cause of your crash.  Best bet is to look at the crash log and google to find more information about the error code. Are you overclocking?  Have you overclocked in the past?  Maybe go into your bios and load optimized defaults to make sure things are all correct.

I've had HWMonitor give me a BSOD before, it was when I tried updating in it so I went back to the older version. Current versions are fine for me though.
