So I have this system I am trying to repair for someone and at first it seemed like a fresh install of windows was needed. nope.

The system starts but only if you clear the cmos and click load optimized defaults.

Once the computer restarts or is shut down and turned back on you have to clear the cmos agian.

The error code it gives me is: 1 beep pause 8 beeps and sometimes it will do another single beep 30 seconds later.

I have tried:

 

​New ram/cleaning ram slots/different slots

 

New CMOS battery

 

Removing GPU and using onboard/using another video card, ect

 

​unplugging every un-needed item.

 

Flashing bios (did not work in Windows 7 64bit and xp pro, yet to try windows 7 32bit) 

 

From what it seems like the mobo might be on it's last leg, who knows. HELP!

They have online support so ask them what the error code means if you can't find the information somewhere on the net.  Eh now can you tell me what kind of BIOS it has? What is the BIOS manufacturer?  If you can give me that info.  I may be able to tell you what the error code means.

That would be the display test failure code.

Alright, looks like a video error, will have to mess with that tomorrow.

That might help. I have similar issues with my old Intel board, though that's only when I use a video card that's not AGP x1 or x2.

Worked! Switched video mode to PEG and just have to install Windows

I got so frustrated with my Pentium II system when I thought I killed the AGP slot until I found an older card to use in it and it worked just fine.

That's exactly what happened when I first started experimenting with my Celeron Board, though for some reason its very picky when it comes to PSU, only my 400W (500W peak) and 850W PSU work with it.
