Hi,

I'm about to install a H110i GT in my Graphite 760t and now have a questions.

On the top of the case there are pre-installed rubber grommets for 120 fans and if I were to install them on the 140 position they don't fit in the smaller hole who are meant for the 280 rad. Now, should I leave them at their standard position and use the washers shipped with the cooler or will that cause too much vibrations? Also what would be a good set of replacement fans if it would be too noisy?

Tanks in advance

Joe

No one answered you huh heh heh, it happens don't take it personal @Gamerfanatic.

If i remember correctly the 760t comes with no grommets for the 280 slot and i would recommend you just go to a local hardware or auto mechanics shop, with the fan screws, and find some sillicon washer that fit the screws which usually takes some trial and error getting the correct fit or you can just get sillicon fan gaskets for your fans. They come in many colors and sizes and they work well.

Fans are a tricky item because in my experience, some fans are silent in a horizontal position and could be noisy in a vertical position and vise versa. With radiator fans you want high static pressure rather than CFM which is not to say you don't want CFM too. Then there is the noise level you are willing to live with. For me, i don't mine some what noisy fans nothing more than 28decibles, once they are PWM where i can quickly change the fan speeds on the fly through software. My personal choice are the Akasa Apache, as they give superb static pressure and CFM at 24v and sufficient static pressure and CFM at lower speeds.

Thanks for the advice... never thought about those silicon fan things.

But wouldn't it be better if I had gaskets AND washers? But the problem would be then that I need new screws... I will get there eventually :D

Also those Akasa fans look amazing. I'll probably get a pair

You don't need washers or grommets with the gaskets because the gaskets cover the fan completely. and you put the gaskets between the radiator and fan, not fan and mounting holes.  If you use washers with the grommets you may not get to use the supplied screws and then if you get other screws they may be to long and either puncture the radiator fins or channels.

The fans are great, i have 4x140mm and 3x120mm in my case. The 120mm fans are completely silent at full speed and cool my radiator with ease but at full speed the 140mms are a bit noisy in a quiet room but at 1000-1200rpm they are quiet in the same silent room.

One last question...

The Akasa Apaches aren't at the moment not that much cheaper than the Noctua NF A14 industrial...

Are those pressure optimised?

the industrial fans? Sure are but they spin at 3000rpm or something like that and are quite loud.

On my 760T I've just used the metal washers to install my radiators, and my h110 before that, and I never had any vibrations or noise using that method. Personally I don't think you need the rubber gasket or washers unless you have crappy fans that are unbalanced.

May I ask what fans you used?

Indeed sir, for I have used many.

For a long while I used led versions of these: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553007&cm_re=cougar_fan-_-35-553-007-_-Product

But as leds no longer serve my purposes I bought a bunch of these: http://www.swiftech.com/Helix140.aspx

And I also have 2 of the regular brown noctua 140mm: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608034&cm_re=noctua_140mm-_-35-608-034-_-Product

because I thought that more expensive might mean better. I felt that they were all pretty good, but the noctuas were a bit loud, even the lower 1500rpm ones. They are all good radiator fans as well. And I've tried the corsair fans and thought that they were loud as well.
