I'm shopping for a new laptop/notebook for my wife and she wants one that has both an optical drive and an SSD. It's getting hard enough to find one with an optical drive, but almost none of the ones I found also have an SSD. (I realize I could probably buy one with an HDD and swap it out for an SSD, but I'd really like to avoid the hassle of installing Windows again and tracking down all the drivers which can be a pain especially when it comes to laptops.)

I found the Asus N550 which you can get with both, but it weights over six pounds and has tons of features she doesn't need (like dedicated graphics). I'm really hoping to find something lighter and less complex. She actually uses her laptop on her lap watching movies and things, so something with a low-power processor that doesn't generate too much heat would be preferable.

Finding a ULV chip-using notebook which is full-sized and has an ODD is like asking for the gods to spawn the perfect woman for you.

Most of these new thin notebooks discard the ODD for weight/battery life/etc... you're better off getting an external ODD and a lower-end ULV-CPU-using machine.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
