So I know laptops aren't designed to be ran for long periods of time but once or twice a week I need to leave my laptop on overnight and I don't wish for it to overheat.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptop and I know the output fan is under and blowing air into the desk/surface the laptop is on so a simple "Blow air at the laptop" cooler isn't the best option for me.

What are my other options?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I dislike this quote, I like to ensure it stays working before it breaks at all.

So if it isn't overheating, don't ensure it doesn't, (if that makes an ounce of sense) it should be able to run cool on a desk tbh.

Also, you could get core temp and set it to turn off when it reaches 90c or so

I don't understand the part you mentioned about it overheating :) I know it gets warm on a desk but it'll most likely start heating up even more the longer I leave it on.

I'll look into core temp and run it to see how it goes.

you can get a laptop cooler that has movable fans like the note pal u2 or u3 from cooler master and put them on hot spots and not impede the laptops exhaust fan from doing its job.

Oh, that's a nice idea. Have you used that type of cooler before?
