So I've decided to build a gaming computer, originally I started with a $1000 budget but I've decided to go with about $1400 (NZD) I have a complete component list below, I'd love advice on whether or not things are going to work well, or parts I should consider changing.

Motherboard: ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0 - $115

CPU: AMD FX 8350 4.0GHz 8 core - $265

GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC - $490

PSU: Cooler Master V650S (650W) - $170

CASE: Cooler Master Silencio 452 - $120

RAM: Crucial DDR3 1600MHz - $92

HDD:  Seagate Barracuda 2TB - $115

I will end up buying an SSD soon after building.

Prices are in NZD. I have a question about pci-e 2.0 and 3.0, the graphics card is 3.0 but the slot is 2.0 is it going to make a big difference?

CPU: i5-4690K @ 4.0GHz GPU: Gigabyte Gtx 970 WindForce MOBO: Gigabyte Z97 Gaming-3 CASE: Corsair Carbide 200R PSU: Corsair RM750

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4GBx4  MOUSE: CM Mizar KEYBOARD: Logitec G110

no, it will make no difference that it it pci-e 2.0 rather than 3.0

Awesome that's what I thought from research but wanted to make sure

no NOTICEABLE difference, but it will have a minuscule difference

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Yeah, Linus has a video on it lad :D

Our friend above is being pedantic.

Was just about to watch that, but didn't think it indluded 2.0 and 3.0

Is the i5 4430 going to be better than an FX 8350? I enjoy physics games like besieged so I would be using it

Yes, it would be better especially for games that are more reliant on faster threads like Besiege.

One thing you want to consider when getting a CPU/Motherboard combo these days is what platform has the technology you want? You may be able to get slightly more power out of an AMD platform, but right now the AMD platform is really out of date in comparison to Z97.

I'm not saying that Intel is the best option, but power isn't necessarily the only think you want to look at.

Depends on what you do.

All intel 4 cores are absolute garbage compared to the amd 8 core when it comes to rendering or streaming.

Is there anything intel that's better I could consider?

Haswell i5's are fine for streaming and rendering. The 8350 may pull ahead but only in programs well optimized to take advantage of the extra cores.

An oc'ed 4690k would be the next best option but it's not really worth the money.

I rather like what you've shown me, if I ever bought a second graphics card to Crossfire would I have any issues using Mirco-atx, and is it not better to use a single stick of 8gb ram?

You'd need a different motherboard and psu for CF.

Using a single stick would be better if you planed to use 32GB ram in the future. Otherwise, 2 sticks can be run in dual channel for theoretically more performance.

So my original plan was to buy the 290 tri-x and then get another 2 or so weeks later (More pay) would it be better to stick with the build you gave (Changing MoBO and PSU) or just go with a gtx 970 and just never run it in sli or anything?

Why not just go with a 290 and replace it later down the road?

I don't have a huge income so my aim is to waste as little as possible

Oh and I'm sorry but the games I'd like to run on decent settings are GTA V, Witcher 3 and just cause 3 (Runs on potatoes) and the mad max game

I don't see how that would be a waste?
