R9 290x performance problems

Hey guys!

 

I bought the ASUS R9 290x recently and I am having weird performance issues in some games. I've been at a friends place (he has a 280x and some non-overclocked i5) and he was playing TERA on all max settings, while getting smooth-constant 60fps. On my 290x I am getting mostly around 30-45fps, sometimes 60. I've been searching for a solution to my problem (I think i should too have 60 fps, since 290x is an upgrade to 280x...) for the last few days but cant find anything...(yes, I have it switched on the "uber" mode)

Here is my spec: i7-3770k (oc @ 4.3GHz, with H100i cooling), ASUS 290x, Corsair AX750 psu, ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard and a 840 EVO 500gig SDD.

I dont think I should have any bottlenecks in my system that would affect my graphics performance?

Lastly I have noticed some weird stuff when checking the usage of my graphics card. It wasnt 100% all the time, but it was jumping from 0-100 in 1-2sec intervals.

I have reinstalled the drivers (using DDU), without showing any performance difference.

 

Do you guys have any idea as to why would I have non-stable and lower fps on games, compared to an 280x?

I've tried some benchmarks now... and am getting normal scores on the Valley Benchmark (usage is 100% constantly) and I am getting 60fps on max setting. (FPS: 56.3 Score: 2356 Min FPS: 27.5 Max FPS: 109.1)

Maybe drivers?

reinstall windows from scratch and see if it does it again

install the graphix driver last after motherboard and krap

wait are u playing tera ? and getting this ?

tera is the most unoptimized game in the history of games lol (its horribly cpu bound and doesnt use much gpu )

just ask the people who play it lol its a fun game none the less lol

its the game if its what your basing it on

u gotta manually do alot of settings to make it run and look  better

Well thank you for the replies guys!

I still have around 40 fps in-game... with ups and downs in gpu usage.

I have called the online store where I bought the game, and they said they would need 2-4 weeks to get it checked and/or fixed/replaced. Thats stupid.

Is there a way I could force that lets say TERA uses more of the GPU power? (to force utilization of the graphics card?)

Ive heard you could do it with RadeonPro, but couldnt figure out how.

- Tera is unoptimized, and runs much smoother if UI is off...

- My gpu usage is still spiky (0-90% in 1sec intervals) and clock speed doesnt go over 950 EXCEPT when i run a benchmark

- Theres many people with the same problem but no solution

its software problem with tera

u can only manually edit settings with that link i posted above and maybe check into what other people have done

teras a old game and i am pretty sure they will never fix the optimization, just gotta suffer through it like everyone else lol

your can always ask people in the game for more tips but they will probably just say it is what it is lol

oh ya when editing the ini file make sure u set it back to read only

i think it reverts it if u dont
