Earlier this year I built my current PC, but I really regret going with an M-ITX motherboard, so I'm planning to upgrade soon...

I have already upgraded the case from a Fractal Design Node 304 to a Corsair Obsidian 350D.

I plan on upgrading my PC with:

  • Asus Maximus V Gene
  • 2x Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x4GB CMY8GX3M2A1600C9R
  • Seagate Barracuda ST2000MD0001 2TB
  • Asus BC-12D1ST Blu-ray reader
  • Asus ROG Xonar Phoebus Solo

I might upgrade from my H60 to an H100i... not sure about that yet...

You can see my current config in my signature...

What do you guys think?

The Phoebus is not a good choice of a sound card in terms of sound quality, it's intended more for the gaming experience. If you're looking for a DAC or amp, I'd recommend something like the Fiio E17 at that price point (it can be used in your pocket with your phone as well). May I ask why you're changing the RAM since your current RAM may actually be superior? And are you sure that you'll use the Blu-ray drive enough?

I disagree. The Phoebus is a great choice, since i comes with great quality and superior performance. And, your upgrade to the Vengeance Pro RAM is considerable, although you might want to stick with 16GB, like your current build.

"This card is optimized for gaming, not necessarily [for] those discerning music listeners"

"In comparison, the Phoebus doesn't quite offer the high end refinement found in the Essence series as it is more in league of the D2 or Xense interfaces.

If you are looking for a great new audio card for your latest game system build or a major upgrade from any onboard audio we recommend you take a look at the Xonar Phoebus 7.1."

Also note that its opamps aren't swappable natively.

Then why are you on Linus' forum if he isn't credible?

No, not Linus, you.

i'm changing my ram mainly because of the looks of the Vengeance Pro... but also because the Pro are made of aluminium and not plastic... I will still go with 16GB, just over 4 sticks instead of 2 sticks...
as for the Blu-ray drive, I need an optical drive so I thought I might just go with a Blu-ray drive...
