Smoother movement, longer lasting, better overall quality.  Don't need one, just nice to have one that's decent./

It's kinda like getting racing tires for a toyota pickup, it'll maybe help but it's in general not really worth it.

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

I haven't used a mouse pad since optical mice came out years ago.   For the last couple of years I've been simply protecting my desktop with a sheet of self-adhesive shelf and window liner.  I use Con-Tact brand, in a "diamond" pattern.  Wears extremely well, cleans easy, easy to replace, cheap!  Covered my whole desktop with it.  I think the diamonds help the optical sensor keep accuracy too.
