guys,

need help understanding what in the the f*** just happened.

brand new pc.

-mind you past few days its been flawless.

was playing dota2 and my keyboard started cutting out, then completely. tried dif usb ports, same result. game started to freeze and stutter, tried to minimize to restart my pc but screen was flickering rapidly at this point and i could do nothing. this went on for probably 10 seconds, got an error msg that i dont remember and then pc shuts off. sat there for 2 mins in complete shock. powered pc back on after i had shut everything off and let sit for about a minute, went to type in my login password and keyboard cuts out, maximizing the characters in text feild bar, boom, pc shuts off again. opened case to see if cpu was on fucking fire or something and it didnt feel very hot, nor case in general. So completely terrified, first thing that naturally comes to mind is virus or file corruption, i have no idea. i say this because just prior to this awful event i downloaded a recommended hardware monitor HWMonitor. just to see cpu temps and fan speeds. Started pc up for a 3rd time and was able to get keyboard to work long enough to login, im logged in everything looks normal. first thing i did was virus scan when i logged back in, and nothing. i have nod32. pc is still on but i can see the keyboard keeps cutting in and out, leds coming on and off. this was a massive crash and it happened very fast. nod32 antivirus, all that i have on my pc right now is basically just Steam.

any imput would be hugely appreciated, this is my first build.

-i5 4690k

-evga GTX 960

Make sure all your cables are plugged in properly and tight. Same thing happened to me, I was using my PC normally for a few days, was playing some CSGO and then suddenly everything just black screen and cut off. It didnt have the flickering problem as you described. Same, I powered it backed on and then it just turned off again. So I brought it back to the shop where I bought my components from and asked them what was the problem. Turns out my PCI-E power connector was loose, I didnt plug it in correctly.

It could be just an electricity problem, so it's possible that it wasn't even your pc that was causing the problem.
if it wasn't your electricity then I think your psu might not be strong enough, but I'm not sure that it's that because normally you should have enough for your whole system

think 600 watts is too low? i thought i was completely fine w 600.聽

I don't really think 600 watt is too low, I use 550 watt for my whole system and it has arround the same specs so that's not really the problem, but maybe it's your powersuply that's creating the problems, I have power issues on my molex connectors so I guess it's possible that it's your psu
