I see people went with Intel here, so I will give you an AMD option, although I might consider these Intel ones. The price is a little higher than $600, but it is only $3 more than what you posted.

Also if you want a good deal on a graphics card I would suggest looking at NCIX's eBay store. I have built an entire PC from items on there and I didn't have any problems.

This is 20$ more than your initial build, but its quite a bit more powerful i believe. 

And that video card also has freesync support... when in the future your friend decides to upgrade the monitor he can get a freesync one and it will feel like a video card upgrade when you get that freesync loop working.

 

And ye, i think a white case looks way better than that black plastic... yuck.
