By the time you will render a 400gb file with sony vegas, and the program won't crash, i'll look like Gandalf. On-topic: I assume you use AVI to encode the videos, which is plain wrong, h.264 is da boss, also i am curious where you will fit a 400gb video file, certainly not on YT. If you render alot, altough i doubt it, get the most expensive cpu you can. It's that simple. They are extreme editions for a reason. But generally yes, an i7 is better than an i5 for rendering, more threads applied.

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

It is very good, but if you are looking at very large projects at a professional level you may want to step up to the i7-3930K.

well i have money to both of the CPU.

i am not pro on editing but all i know i have learned myself. i mean use effects, change name on intro an d other stuff.

and with this CPU i rendered a 660 gb file on 3-4 hours...

well i played a zombie gameplay on black ops 2 and the match was around 3 hours...

Any new cpu will give you a non-lagging experience while rendering. But you can't play games while rendering, that's fo' sure. And a 3930k will nail a 4770k in rendering, i am pretty sure.

Rendering, in it's definition uses the cpu 100%, so playing would be laggish, rendering will take longer. The computer won't lag while rendering, you can browse webs, watch vids etc. considering that your gpu rests or is used little. the 3930k is purely better, more cores and threads.

Neither. The new ivy-bridge on 2011, coming this year. That being said, get the 3930k and upgrade to ivy-E later.
