Formating virus filled HDD

Go to solution Solved by Peter Vaughan Truslow,

DBAN would work, but my preferred method is booting a ubuntu disk(windows viruses aren't coded to run on linux) and formatting it with that.

just create an ubuntu installation USB with universal USB installer and "try ubuntu without instaling" when you boot the USB disk.

Hello

So I just helped my friend install 2 new drives, a SSD and HDD. He gave me his used 500GB Seagate HDD, which is full of viruses and has windows installed on it. Is there any way of formatting the drive on my current PC without fucking up the OS's and harming my PC with his malware? Can I only use DBAN? I don't want to live without my pc for such a long time  ^_^

Cheers

Thanks! So I can use Ubuntu (web browsing etc.) while it's formatting the other drive?

as long as you have it connected to the internet. it won't be too snappy during, as USB drives aren't too fast, but I use ubuntu all the time for programming, and it's a great OS IMO
