So LTT it's time for me to get rid of my aging e6850 gtx 275 rig and get a new 'un.

As i'm somewhat obcessive (i spent three whole weeks researching components for my previous build) i thought i'd run it past some other technically minded people (as i'm about the only one i know).

Currently i'm looking at this - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/84pQnQ

[EDIT] More information below:

It'll mostly be used for mid-tier gaming, not expecting to run GTA V on max everything, but running most games around 60fps with half decent settings etc. The odd bit of transcoding with handbrake and general stuff and only have 1 monitor at the moment, planning on two...and absolutely no 4k.

At the moment i'd be looking at a very slight overclock, hence the evo 212 and not AIO or high end air but i plan to keep the CPU and mobo going the longest as they are the more irritating things to upgrade; hence why the cpu is a little overkill for the build for what i have planned.

I am, however, a little concerned with the PSU, i originally had 620w seasonic for it but that seemed somewhat overkill.

Budget wise i'm at about the limit, i'd rather not go too far above £800 and, as shown on the partlist i'm ideally going for components i can get from overclockers.co.uk as it's not too far from here so i can drive, so ignore the shipping cost. Little bit more expensive than some places but i can get all the parts in one batch, in one day and can return them direct to the store if they are DOA.

Added the budget to the original post...not sure how i managed to hit post before finishing typing!

Anyway if i could shave £100 off somewhere i might have considered it but for the gaming i do i really can't justify spending more than 1/3rd of the entire budget on a graphics card.

I'm not going to be gaming at anything higher than 1080p, nor do i plan on having maxed out settings.

One of the triggers for the upgrade was, of course, GTA V, but i'm definitely a filthy casual gamer. I don't spend hours in games; i tend to spend 30 minutes here and there between various other things and i really don't mind jagged edges or shorter view distances, especially having come from the xbox 360 version.

Be nice if i could run ass creed black flag at more than 4fps while it's raining too i guess.

I'd spend more on a CPU cooler that can cool Well.  The Hyper 212 is great especially for the price but it isn't very good for high OC.  Something like the Phantek PH-TC12DX_BK would be a good choice.  It is more expensive, but it performs better and does 60ish C while the hyper does 90 C.

I'd also recommend getting a 2TB HDD to store everything.

Go for the 620W Seasonic, it'll allow SLI with the 960s later down the road.

Speaking of which, go for a motherboard that does.  Such as the ASRock Extreme 3 or ASUS Z97-A

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

what's your budget? I would spend the bit extra on a GTX 970 if i were u

OP said he does not want to go over his £800 limit.

If he added an Nvidia 970, the price would be over £900.

CPU cooler looks good, and only 10 quid more on scan (one of the few components i'd be willing to order online for).  At the moment i'd not too bothered about storage, i'm currently using 930 GB but that does include over 400gb of media which will get moved to a NAS in the near future. I went for the 1tb as it's the only WD blue overclockers seem to stock and i don't want to pay for a black, i don't want a green and reds seem a bit overkill for standard desktop usage. I'm also afraid of seagate as i've heard some bad things.

Regarding SLI, i'm really never likely to go SLI. like i said i'm a filthy casual gamer. The most 'next-gen' game i currently have installed is ass creed black flag and as long as i can get GTA V to 60fps and not be running 800x600 i'd be happy. And even then i'd probably be spending 30-60 minutes every few days just driving around and blowing stuff up.

Sorry for the merican $, but i believe this is the most refined price/performance build in that segment. I THINK in pounds its something like 850 or something.

get it? cheapest i5 cuz you cant use anything more for gaming anyway, and a working freesync loop with a monitor on which you can actually enjoy games

You are well over budget. The UK has it's own pcpartpicker which you should have used.

Overclockers are selling the Asus R9 290X for £227.99 on a this week offer. They change every weds.

If you go with a cheaper case (100R/200R etc) and motherboard then you should fit it in your budget. The Gigabyte Z97P for example is only £63.95.

You might also be able to fit this psu in while it is on offer.

Just make sure that the cooler will fit in the case if you change it. The guys on the shop counter will know.
