Im thinking of upgrading my current system but was wondering if i should get a gtx900 series or amd r9 series or should i wait for the next gen to come out

Next gen is right around the corner at this point. I would wait to see what happens with those cards.

You have a 7870, right?

What games do you play?

Ive got assassins creed unity sim games war thunder warframe sim euro truck sim farming sim looking for naval battle the crew

If i'm not mistaken, those cards are more "nVidia friendly", but you should wait. R3XX series is just around the corner, and 7870 can currently run everything :D

BUT, if you REALLY need a new card RIGHT NOW, go with GTX 9XX series :)

I personally would buy a 900 series card because they're more power efficient than AMD cards and don't kick out as much heat.

I like it how you're comparing nVidia's new cards with AMD older ones. Wait and see what will AMD offer. RIGHT NOW nVidia is better, but it would be stupid not to wait for AMD's new cards at this point... -_-

The 290X presents better value than the 970 at the moment, and the aftermarket coolers run barely hotter than the nvidia counterparts. Also, full 4GB VRAM and 512bit bus, and cheaper, so if you want a value purchase a 290X is a good bet

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

My opinion is that you should get a current gen because technology changes all the time. so any ways, if you wait. Then even more new staff will come out. I say get sth cheap that works fine with games u play and call it a day. BTW I bought a week ago a guy 960 and it is just fine that I play shooters. I believe you are going to be golden playing simulators.
