Why Not the 212X?

Go to solution Solved by ForsakenLive,

First of all, it's a rare find. I think their main target was Asian countries, as it's not available regularly on most EU/US sellers.

Second, it's price. The 212 EVO hits the sweetspot at $30 (btw it has been getting a LOT of competitors lately). The 212X was seen around $50 many times. At that price there are better choices, you can even get a Cooler Master Hyper 612 for that money, which would outperform it easily.

I have been looking through a bunch of air cooling posts asking what a good budget air cooler is and basically everyone recommends the CM Hyper 212 EVO. Which is understandable, it is an amazing cooler. But why not the 212X? It is apparently an improved version of the 212 EVO so why don't people recommend that instead? Is there a hidden issue I am not aware of?

Did a quick google search, didn't look at the link myself, just skimmed through it, may answer ur question, maybe not.

EDIT: Went through more, some say its same cooler, different fan.

Well I'm in Australia, which is classified as an Asian country/continent. And the funny thing is that it's actually CHEAPER here than the 212 EVO, only by $2 but it's still cheaper...

CM Hyper 212 EVO - $45

CM Hyper 212X - $43

In that case, there would be no reason for someone to go for a 212 over a 212x

And now that I looked up the 612 it's only $4 more than a 212 EVO. I may get it now :P

Nice choice...  Although I'd say anything in the 212 model range would be a great bet.  If only the Noctua NH-D15 wouldn't be 3x as much, I clearly would've looked into that...just sayin'.   ;) (Not to mention that I kind of wish that Noctua would've made a version with BLACK fans, would look better in more modern builds).  That along with the price tag, I'm kind of glad that the 212 EVO is the go-to.
