I was wondering if i use my Radeon R9 270 (that was in my Gaming PC before i upgraded it for a GTX980) in my HTPC ( That does NO gaming whatsoever, Since i have seperate PC's dedicated to Gaming and my Home Theater) have any advantages for a HTPC? If yes, What improvements would i get over not installing it

Thanks,

Thanks,

For not installing the r9 270, the heat generated will be ALOT less. Although I myself are using AMD GPU as well, but I seriously hate the heat generated. zzz. If you are not gaming on it and just view movies and stuff, tentatively should be ok using the iGPU right? Unless you are viewing in 4K then I'm not too sure. :(

most intel iGPUs nowadays can run 4k screens but I think it's only on 30hz due to current gen hdmi limitations

Oic. I roughly remember they should be able to display 4K but didn't know on the 30Hz thing. Thanks! Learn something new today. :)

A good Haswell pentium will do just fine for 4K playback. Altho as stated above you can only get 3,840x2,160@30fps and 4,096x2,160@24fps on HDMI 1.4(?)
