You have to go into the bios on your mobo and overclock through that if your mobo supports OCing and you will need a after market cooler.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

Im gonna probably sound stupid but I got this thing called AMD overdrive. Since my Mobo doesnt support OCing I got this. People said how easy it was to use and I OVerclocked from 2.6Ghz to 3.0Ghz. I have a aftermarket cooler. Heres the noob part.. DO I need to reboot my PC for these changes to take place? Also how would I know how much it improved?

Not to sure about about amd bios's but when you change something and go to leave the bios it asks you if you want to save changes and reset that should apply any OC or other changes made.

download cpuz and keep that open while you have amd overdrive open, you should be able to see the speed change in real time on there.
