so ive been running my system i built with no gpu for a while for various reasons and i finally bought a card (gigabyte GTX 960 G1 gaming 2gb) and i go to install it, my system posts, i get all the bios stuff up to make sure it was all good then i go to boot into windows and the windows logo comes up then my keyboard and moush flash and shut off then my screen just goes blank, not off just black and theres not hdd activity and i leave it for like 30 minutes and nothing. i tried removing the card and looking up drivers but it wont install without nvidia hardware present in the system. im going to try updating my bios but i doubt thats the issue since i can post and reach bios and even get to the os logo, it seems to just get hung up on the switch from bios to os

my hardware is 8gb DDR3 2133, intel i5 3570k, asus maximus V formula, gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming, a standard 1080p displayport monitor from asus, windows 8.1 fully updated

my keyboard and mouse are in the usb2.0 ports

no other hardware has changed other than the addition of the graphics card

im not sure what other information i should give, its just after midnight here and im just sitting here scratching my head at what could possibly be wrong

any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

have you ever run a GPU in this system before?  IF so you may want to try deleting old drivers.  Also try installing drivers with the GPU plugged in but running off the integrated graphics.

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

No other PCi cards have ever been installed and I tried booting with the card in but monitor plugged into on board graphics but they just stayed asleep, so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong there, i tried both the hdmi and display port monitors individually bc I've had dp issues before with this setup but that didn't seem to be the case this time... I'll give it another go with card in and monitor on on board graphics, hopefully new bios yields differnt results.
