Need Help

So I have the ISP router/modem from comcast/xfinity and i am moving upstairs away from my router, and was going to by a new router for upstairs. Do i need a modem, or can I just plug into my existing modem/router via Ethernet and run a cable up to my new router? thanks

make the comcast modem into a stupid basic modem..and use the new router for all your firewall and wireless stuff

Instead of buying some ASUS or Netgear router, why not get a switch and an access point? Let the ISP Modem/Router still be the gateway and the DHCP server. You can even do same SSIDs on different channels so devices would jump from upstairs to downstairs modem if it has WiFi...

 

I don't know what's your budget but for around 50-60 USD you can get a pretty decent switch and an access point.
