Xiomi Mi 4i processor doubt.

I was just looking into this phone and it seems they are advertising that the processor, the 2nd Gen Snapdragon 615 CPU has 8 cores and is clocked at 1.7Ghz. And with such a low price range, I had to look it up properly. So when I went to the qualcomm site, it seems to show that the aforementioned processor has dual quad cores. So is it any different from an 8 core processor? Or do they have their own designed processor, which is highly unlikely.

Im not really good at understanding processors, but this still bugs me a bit. That they saying its an 8 core processor but technically its a dual quad core. And Im still not sure what kind of mobile apps requires 8 cores? I have an FX 8350 on my machine and only time it uses all cores is when Im rendering a video. 

 

Anyways, if I am missing something, then please let me know.

It is a big.LITTLE type processor, pretty much every octa core is that type.

4 cores are powerful, but power hungry and orther 4 are not as powerful, but very power efficient. They switch inbetween which one is needed. 615 is a decently powerful processor.

Galaxy s6 also has the same type of processor it's just their exynos brand.

Yes it's two processors in one. But then they both work together so I don't know what you would call an eight core. It's just that they both do different tasks. FX8xxx series processors aren't technically 8 cores either but hey.
