Ok, so i own a PNY GTX 980 like shown here: http://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-GDDR5-Graphics-VCGGTX9804XPB-CG/dp/B00NH5ZN4S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430709790&sr=8-1&keywords=VCGGTX9804XPB-CG

What i need to know is if that card is compatable with the Swiftech block that can be found here: http://www.swiftech.com/KOMODO-NV-GTX980-ECO.aspx#tab3

I will be doing an entire swiftech build for my youtube channel, and it would be amazing if i dont have to replace the card or buy a new card, to do the build.

Also, does Swiftech have a backplate that goes with that perticular block? if not would it be safe to use an EK backplate, like shown here: http://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-fc980-gtx-backplate-black.html

It is certainly compatible. The PNY card uses an Nvidia Reference Design and PCB layout. The Swiftech block also claims compatibility with said cooler.

Very important, the link you provided to your graphics card has two variants. The "GTX 980", and "GTX 980 OC". Which one do you own? I'm not sure that the "OC" variant is compatible.

So you have the one that looks like this? If so, then you're good to go. As for the back plates, I'm not aware of any.

You work at the Frost Bank? That's neat. I assume you live near downtown? I happen to be in the outskirt of Lakeway / Bee Cave if you've heard of them.

I actually do work at frost bank ^^. Also, I'm surprisingly worlds away from downtown. CircleC if you've heard it, its about a 30 minute drive to frost.

@Interfectorem do you think that a backplate will even be necessary? or should i be okay with just the card and the cooler?

It's certainly not a need, it's mainly for aesthetics.

Just to make things easier. I would just get on their forums and ask or e-mail them. Bryan from Swiftech is a super nice guy and he always answers questions quickly. He answered my question about the Apogee XL within about 5 minutes.

I'm jelly. I would have got the KOMODO.. The black one.. But it required a backplate and I literally just received the EK block in the mail when they came out with that ECO block. :(

My next build I'm going all swiftech because they've been so nice to me. Lol

I'm a dummy. I didn't even say any useful info in my post. I think the ECO doesn't require a backplate as it comes with shorter screws with washers. But, don't take my word for it. I'd ask them first. I find it a bit strange because the more expensive version doesn't. I'm not entirely sure. However, you can reuse your old backplate if you have a reference Nvidia design hence why Swiftech didn't include one because Nvidia told them all reference 980 cards will come with backplates! I'm not exactly sure if that's correct but I'm about 99% certain. Like I said before, I'd just go on the Swiftech forums and ask around. :D
