Hello Linus Tech Tip community

Recently I have ran into a problem with my new updates and installs on steam. It started on the 29/014/15, Killing Floor 2 had an update, so like usual I would auto update my game like any other game but when it finished updating I was stuck in a loop of validating the game. I didn't know what the problem was so I just un-install and reinstall the game and that's when the disk write error started popping up, then today it started popping up with the update for Reign of Kings. I've tried looking this up on google and have ran into a few fixes but none of the work for me, so I decided to come here to see if anyone could help me out.

My thoughts are I think there are some bad sectors on my hard drive that hasn't been marked yet or my hard drive is able to die. I don't think my hard drive is about to die yet because I got it like two years ago and it hasn't shown any signs of a dying hard drive. I would very much appreciate any help anyone is willing to give me, i seriously don't want to go out and buy another hard drive but if I have to I guess I will.

This may not help at all..but I was stuck in validating black ops 2 and "finishing installation". I finally found the solution after 3 months. If you have an antivirus, turn it off while you boot up the game. If thats the problem, it should boot and then you can turn your anti virus back on. Good luck!

I had similar problem when i moved my GTAV installation to another drive, seem that Steam doesn't have permission to that folder/drive so i had to manually add it.

Hi I just ran into this problem when I tried to put ARK on my SSD. The problem was that users didn't have the permissions to write to the folder.

Whilst this can be caused for some unknown reason. Sometimes if you try to move your Steam folder between drives, In my case I just wanted to move ARK from my HDD to my SSD and the steam folder did not have the same permissions causing these problems.

To fix this:

-Simply locate your steam directory, typically in your C:\Program Files\steam      OR      C:\Program Files (x86)\steam

-Right click on the steam folder and select properties.

-Go to the "Security" tab

-Click on the "edit" button

-Highlight "users" and check the box labeled "Full Control" and it will check all the boxes except for special permissions I do believe.

-Restart Steam and watch your files start up flawlessly.
