Hi, I'm looking into CPUs for my new computer that will be gaming on 1080p.

Mostly, I will be playing CS:GO, Starcraft 2, and Minecraft.

I know that Source is a CPU intensive engine, and know I need a decent one to run it smoothly.

Currently I have looked into the i3-4160, i5-4430, and the i5-4690k.

I'm trying to save as much money as possible, but still don't know what to do in terms of CPU.

I'm planning on buying something like a GTX 960 ($150-$200ish GPU). Any ideas what CPU I can use without having to spend a buttload of money?

Do you need a whole new PC?

go for the i5-4430 and the 960.  They are both great chips and will give you the best value.  It'll cost you a bit but I'd say it's worth it.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

Do you need a whole new PC?

I already have a really good PC, but I'm going to have friends over every now and then and will be playing games there, so that's why I don't want to spend too much, but I still don't want it to be a horrible gaming experience.

I know that people have been getting 60+ fps on CS:GO with i3-4130 and GTX 750Ti, but I thought spending like 100 more bucks can make the computer much more versatile. Also, I'm particularly worried about the performance in Starcraft 2 with a i3 since I think Starcraft is pretty CPU heavy as well, and a decent gpu is probably a good idea to have a fairly decent experience on SC2

 i5-4690k. and amd 290/280x

Will I be receiving such a dramatic performance boost that without a 4690k, the game is totally unplayable? I just want 60+fps minimum on CSGO and SC2... i5-4690k and 290/280x is kinda pricey for my budget. $600-$700 + $100 monitor.

I have peripherals except for the monitor. I've already decided on a $100 monitor though.

I definitely want 1080p.

Ok, this all helps, What is your store of preference and are you building this yourself? Will you need an OS?

With my i5 4690k at stock and my 970 at stock I am getting a whopping 240fps+ in CS:GO with max settings. So assuming that an i3 and 960 is 3/4 of that, You would be running at max settings (1080p Resolution BTW) at around 60 fps. Tone down your settings and you would be getting up to 100.

Do you need a SSD?

Yeah, an 850 EVO 120GB should be fine for that. Only like 60 bucks, and I don't really need more space than that. Worth the performance boost.

I don't know for sure if the performance truly scales that way, but damn. On my i7-4790k w. GTX 970, it runs at minimum 299fps so I can't really tell for sure, that's why I'm here.

Crucial BX100 250GB SSD (you can put all the games on it)

8gb ram 1600hz (cheapest u can get)

Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition G3258

Galaxy GeForce GTX 750 Ti

500w or less psu (good brand)

a supported motherboard:

If u want a really high OC you can go for a CPU cooler something like a 212x would work.
