i am going to purchase a new motherboard and cpu and also im going to be getting windows 8 as i have windows 7 oem. i want to know if i can still use my old drives which is a ssd and a  1tb HDD, also i wasnt quite sure where to post this.

 

If you are switching from 7 to 8, and changing out the motherboard+CPU, then you are best of doing a clean install to avoid any headaches.

You can use old drives. But the primary one (I'll assume SSD) will have to be formatted first. That means loosing all data on it. Formatting secondary drive isn't necessary, you can just delete files and folders you don't need. I would recommend doing it anyway, just make backup of everything you need first. You will have to install all software again anyway.

If your Win7 is purchased separated as OEM, you can continue using it. And upgrade free to Win10 when its released.
