Testing my loop

So I'm going to test my loop but my pump requires a 4 pin fan header is this required. For the pump to work or is it just for controlling the speed

My pump is swifttech MCP35X by the way

Its just to control the speed and monitor the RPM. You don't need to plug it in for the pump to work.
