I'm rather inexperienced with computer assembly, but I'm willing and curious to learn.

This is going to be my first official PC build. By that, I mean I've never built anything for myself. I had no control over which parts my PC had, until recently. I've changed my GPUs a LOT. My i3 540 is now proving to be crappy x). Needs a desperate upgrade. 4 GB DDR3 RAM isn't cutting it either. Intel DH55TC doesn't support more than 1333 MHz RAM.

I'm from India, so my currency is INR.

The purposes of this build is mostly going to be focused on gaming, as well as high multitasking capabilities and 3D work later down the lane. I'm interested in overclocking as well, it's fascinated me and I'm curious about how it works. Over the next month or so, while I save enough money for the build, I'll also be educating myself about the various aspects of overclocking and PC assembly / parts in general so that I have a better idea of what I'm dealing with.

This is what I have in mind : -

CPU - Intel i5 4690k [17.4k INR]

Motherboard - ASUS Maximus VII Ranger [15.6k INR]

RAM - G Skill Ripjaws X 1x8 GB [5.2k INR]

Cabinet - Corsair Carbide 500r [8k INR]

Storage - Seagate 2 TB series 14 barracuda [6k ]

Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB SSD [8.6k INR]

CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212X [2.8k INR]

DVD Writer - ASUS/LiteOn DVD Burner [1k INR]

Power Supply - Seasonic S12ii 620 [6k INR]

Graphic Card - ASUS GTX 750 Ti 2 GB  [ Will use from existing build ]

Total - 70,600 INR or 1117.399 USD.

The reason I'm not buying a GPU just yet, is because I've been told it'd be wiser if I waited till the AMD 300 series is out. Also, because buying a good GPU would add at least 30k or 470+ USD to the build, and I won't be able to save up that much money in the next month or two. So for now, I'm content with my GTX 750 Ti. However, I'll surely upgrade the GPU as well, later this year.

As for the overclocking, I'd like to hear your opinions. I will be completely new to it, and I've heard OC'ing something right out of the box will shorten its lifetime. If that is indeed the case, then I'll wait until overclocking is absolutely necessary. Or, I'll OC it to a level where it isn't risky.

A friend of mine has a 3rd gen i5 ( I think. ) OC'd to 4 GHz at all times. He hasn't run into any issues. That being said, he's quite knowledgeable when it comes to PC related things :).

Give me your opinions on this build please. Thanks!

Please use PCPartPicker next time ^^

The Maximus VII is totally overkill and overprice, make some research to see if you are going to use all it offer or not, or switch to something like MSI Z97 G45 or G55.

Do 2x4GB RAM in dual channel instead of 1x8GB, it run faster like that

For OCing, try to wait around 1-2 months before u start to make sure your CPU is stable first, and dont expected all the CPU to be OCing the same, your friend can get 4GHz stable doesnt mean yours will get 4GHz stable.

@Megazero, thanks. I should have used PC parts picker, yeah. My bad x)

A few friends of mine have told me to go for the Maximus VII because I'm interested in upgrading a whole lot later on, also because they convinced me the features of the board are all worth it. From what I gather, it also comes with a Supreme FX soundcard, which...should be good, I think. Then there's the keyboard macro button which will allow me to macro keys even on a normal keyboard. That being said, I've never really compared a lot of motherboards. So I don't really know much about them x). But I think I can handle a costly motherboard. Unless it's a waste of money.

And yes, I've been wondering why the friend told me to go for 1 stick of 8 GB RAM instead of going dual channel. Is dual channel costlier ? Either way, I do think dual channel would be better, too :)

Thanks for the OCing tip!

Between 1x8 vs 2x4, the price is about the same, it just that if you use 2x4 while it run better, you use more slot -> later on if you want to upgrade to more than 16GB RAM on mobo that usually have 4 slot then u will run into a problem... not that >16GB is useful in most cases.

If you think you can use the extra stuff that come with the mobo then it's fine, you dont need to change it. Personally I think it's a waste of money, most of those feature might seem nice at first but are soon forgotten when you actually use it.
