So since about one month my ASUS G73Sw has been freezing up sometimes when I'm not in a full screen application. (It doesn't occur in games). I thought it might be a RAM problem. Any suggestions on how to diagnose/fix this?

Could be a disk problem where your disk is having problems reading/writing to the platter. Do a full backup now just in case.

But it could be a lot of other things. This is pretty hard to diagnose but you could try running a disk test like ATTO and see if freezes still happens.
