I currently have an i5 4460 cpu and a motherboard that only has one PCI-E slot. I'm looking at getting a new motherboard with SLI/Xfire support and am looking at getting either 2 gtx 970's, 2 R9 290's, or waiting for the R9 390's to drop. My question is, will the i5 4460 handle this task ok? I saw the review for Linus' Acer 1440p 144hz monitor and am looking to snag a monitor of that caliber when more models drop with those specs. Am I ok with my cpu or will I need something I can overclock? Or, god forbid, will I need to look at an i7? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah it will handle it. You can't overclock this cpu because it isn't a K model (or an X)

I know. I had no intentions of overclocking when I bought. Still don't. As long as it can handle what I need that's all I can ask for. Any motherboard recommendations? I'm looking at the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 currently.

Solid choice.  My preference is with Gigabyte mobo's, so my recommendation would be the Z97x UD3H or UD5H.
