Recently, my pc has started to occasionally power off without warning.

It happened first around 5 days ago while playing GTA 5, it then happened the next day while watching YouTube videos (or maybe I was just browsing the internet..) And then a couple minutes ago playing FIFA 15.

The PC is about 4 months old and has worked flawlessly the whole time.

Specs: Asus X99 Pro. Intel i7 5820k OC'd to 4.5 (I've lowered the OC to 4.4 since last random shutdown, is it possible that's the problem? I've had it at 4.5 since I 1st built it however)

R9 280X (Gigabyte Windforce Edition)

16GB 2400MHZ DDR4

Corsair HX1000I Psu. With a couple SSD'S and too mechanical HDD's.

I'm obviously pretty concerned because I'm assuming random shutdowns are probably a bit of a bad thing.

The PSU is around 45 degrees when idle, could it be overheating?

The CPU idles around 29-39c and tops out while playing GTA 5 at around 70-75c.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Event viewer shows the following before and after critical shutdown.

In order from olders event, to shutdown to newest.

A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume C:.

The exact nature of the corruption is unknown. The file system structures need to be scanned online.

The transaction resource manager on volume C: encountered an error during recovery. The resource manager will continue recovery.

The transaction resource manager on volume C: encountered an error during recovery. The resource manager will continue recovery.

The transaction resource manager on volume C: encountered an error during recovery. The resource manager will continue recovery.

The file system structure on volume C: has now been repaired.

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\PNP0A0A\2&daba3ff&2.

Performance power management features on processor 0 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.

While the errors make it seem like it may be a drive problem (not saying it definitely isn't maybe someone knows for sure) I transferred the OS to a new SSD yesterday, so the random shutdowns have occurred on two different hard drives.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen a few recent reports of this, and also get it myself...

Maybe another recent Windows Update..?

I have the Kernel Power 41 error (instant restart) and its usually in idle moments,.. only once in a game has it happened.

So I did a reinstall onto my other SSD also like you.. another drive, back to stock clocks, lowered ram to 1600mhz from 2400mhz,..psu is new, so is gpu, memory passed 5 rounds of testing,....

Still happening..

Im using W7 x64,.. everything is up to date, can game on for hours and hours,.. but when browsing or idle,.. randomly resets.

On JUST this forum alone, this last week,.. I've seen newly created threads like yours alike... and now am thinking its a common enough bit of software, either GTA5 or a W-Update.

I've looked up my kernel 41 error a lot, its a generic term error covering multiple types of failure :(

Have not read recent (48 hours) anythings yet on if its a W-Update bug or not... I hope it is TBH, then it can simple be fixed.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Thats comforting to know it's not just me (obviously terrible for us with the problem though) hopefully it was just a windows update or something with an easy fix.

The last windows update I installed was apparently on the 6th of this month, really don't hope I have to RMA this PSU.

My mobo /was taking my locked i5 higher with a 106.7mhz BCLK and I thought it was that... but even stock.. now I had thought its the mobo itself, as my USB ports are also getting flaky...

Plugging in and out would hardlock or reset my machine too... but this could also be a bug, I was more inclined to think I rooted my board a bit.. and my psu is new, no count it could still be the fault but Im hoping not as I'm buying a new board anyway in little over a week.

But the thing that gets me is reinstalled onto a diff drive, and did W-updates straight away, I should have waited to see if it was them....

I hope I read that more people have this issue so it can be fixed with peace of mind for my wallets sake.

I have this kind of problem as well, my machine is nearly 2 years old and it only started a few months ago.

My computer runs on MSX, Its very hard to catch.

Well, I don't think it's a PSU heat problem, ran a Unigine Valley and Fire Strike and the PSU's fan didn't even turn on (passive fan, only turns on at certain temps/usage) and still didn't go over 44.5c.

Really want to figure out the problem, maybe the graphics card?

As the event viewer mentioned there is either an outdated firmware/driver or a corrupted driver within C:/ drive which I believe is your SSD.

It could be the motherboard BIOS, it could be soundcard, and drivers or whatever.

It is NOT hardware related.

Ask me anything.

I'm about to update the BIOS (luckily Asus makes this super easy) and considering the problem only occurs once a day at most, hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Hopefully.

But do that, stress test the GPU.. Then the processor.. And see if they cause it.

If not? Then its not it and not it.. Most likely RAM??? Noopeee.

Software/firmware :)

I have a feeling it was the BIOS or something, I'll stress test the memory now and rule that out, but I'm pretty sure everything is good now.

Thanks for the help!

Are you using Coretemp to monitor CPU temps..

Remove it until the next version if so... or find something similar thats not coretemp...

Many reports of resetting/freezing due to Coretemp...

I've now gotten rid of it, but too early to tell if it has changed anything...
