X99 vs Z97 - Torn and ready to build

I can't decide. My purpose for the build is lightroom, photoshop, and editing family videos (in that order).

I don't plan on overclocking unless you can convince me I should. I anticipate 1 or 2 upgrades with both systems, probably 1 with Z97 and 2 with X99.

I've gotten the builds within $100 of each other.

Please give me your feedback as I am ready to build! I've spent weeks thinking this thru already.

I do not plan on changing the individual builds unless you see something glaring I am just trying to choose between the two.

Z97

4790K

Asus H97M-PLUS

32gb Adata XPG 1600

EVGA GTX 960 4GB

EVGA 750 G2

Samsung 850 pro 256

2 1tb wd storage drives

Phantex EVOLV mATX

FX70 fanless heatsink

Or

X99

5820k

Asrock Extreme 4

16gb Ripjaws 2133

everything else the same including the fanless heatsink unless you think I'm crazy.

Thanks for your help!

For LR and PS? You think the 960 will slow me down?

I don't think so but its quite rare to get the better cpu with the lower gpu

I know. But I don't plan on gaming. I'm upgrading from a budget AMD build from 5 years ago with onboard graphics and 4Gb of ram.

I'm sure I'll be happy with either build but I was surprised when I realized I could get X99 in my budget. This is why I'm torn.

Do you plan on overclocking ? The H97 chipset is not ideal if you are.

Can your software make use of the extra cores on X99 ?

You won't need 750W for a single graphics card. A 550W is plenty.

I would say that 16GB Ram is enough for your needs.

Exactly my question. Well LR and PS use the extra cores?

I've found photo editing to be very time consuming so I'm trying to squeeze every bit of speed out of this build.

No overclocking. Just set it and forget it.
