Cheap high speed camera

Jamdog

I don't know a huge amount about high speed cameras and I am looking for a fairly cheap -£350 camera capable of at least 120fps but 240fps/720p would be much better. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Kind of what I'm looking for but I would prefer something more DSLR like - is that likely?

very unlikely.

the gopro is the best you can get for the budget, if you mean DSLr like with lenses you end up in a thousand dollar plus zone for body only, meaning you need to get the right lenses afterwards, which raises the cost even more.

I would suggest the gopro 4 with the ribcaged mod, it allows for some versitallity by adding some interchangeable lenses to the camera.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

DLR @ 240fps will be well over 10K.

100% impossible , most cheap DSLRs only shoot 30fps and some at 60 max

There is no 120 fps 1080p dslr. There just isn't one. Only a handful can even do 1080 at 60 fps. Actually I can only think of 4. The nikon d3300, d5300/5500, d7200, and the Canon 7d mii.

There's also the panasonic gh4. But that's also a max of 60 fps at 1080.

@Jamdog

On a budget, your options are the GoPro Hero 4 or the iPhone 6.

These are both designed for shooting action "on the go". So if you're doing sports you can bolt a go pro to your helmet or surfboard or whatever without it getting in your way. Or your walking around and find something cool or are watching a sports event and just want to be able to quickly shoot, so you can whip out your phone. These two usage cases cover pretty much every consumer use for super slow motion.

What is it you are trying to shoot and why does it have to be that high speed?

Most dedicated high speed cameras are used for scientific testing and start from about $8k. These are somewhat bulky and aren't meant to be carried around, but locked in place.

In the prosumer-pro market, the Blackmagic URSA ($7k) can do 1080p 150fps and 4K at 120FPS.  Bulky as fuck.

There are more DSLRs that can shoot 60

and the GH4 can shoot 1080p at 96fps meaning you can do 1/4 speed 24p playback

The camera is for slow motion shots of off-road RC cars and getting those beautiful shots of debris flying through the air.

then it's the gopro 4(4k version for 240fps 720p IIRC) or safe up for a multi thousand dollar(10k+) system with fixed lens, does 10kfps+ and needs a ton of storage.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

At your budget, I doubt you'll find many options out side of the Go Pro. If you want something DSLR like, look at the Panasonic GH 4 (don't recall price). It's able to shoot 96fps.

Welp, if you can get the price to say -£400 then try for a backbone ribcage modded gopro then you can change the lens on the gopro
