Is raising BCLK safe?

Hey guys,

 

I have an i7-3770 on an ASUS P8Z77 V-LK. I can raise the core multipliers up to 41, letting me get a stable 4.1GHz on all four cores (any higher and the cores will just run at 4.1GHz under load). However, I messed around with the BCLK a bit and it seems I can get a bit farther this way. At a BCLK of 104, my CPU was running a stable ~4.26GHz on all four cores, even under load. 

 

So my questions are: is raising the BCLK safe? If so, how high could I go before it would be considered unsafe? I also have 16GB of crucial ballistix sport, can I raise the BCLK without worrying about the RAM speed going over 1600MHz or should I lower it down to say 1400MHz?

Raising it is safe, but make sure you check that everything in your computer works properly, increasing the BCLK in newer Intel CPU's can make the entire computer act wierd if its too high.

Something in your computer not acting the way it should after increasing the BCLK. Normally though you get a BSOD before any issues-normally.

BCLK overclocks all the components (pcie, ram etc.) and so it can possibly damage the other components in your system. A small increase in BCLK should be fine though.

So would 105 BCLK be fine? It's gotten me to 4.3GHz with acceptable temps.

Yes, its the same as an FSB overclock with older CPU's (eg Core 2 Duo E8500), with the same risks. As long as the overclock is stable its fine.
