Missing program icons | External hard drive

So recently my external hard drive decided to crash and ever since all the the program icons are missing.

 

 

I put some icons on the desktop to give an example of what it looks like.

All the programs still work but its just the icons...

 

Any input would be great!

If you right click the icon and select properties, there is a "Change Icon" button which should allow you to set the proper icon.

That's 100% true but imagine how many I have to change and find new icons for.

it's odd that this has happened, have you attempted to do a system restore to a point before the drive failure?

This might sound a little stupid but I don't make backups on my external hard drive.

I mean a system restore. If the drive failing caused this problem then a system restore may fix the problem. Were the programs installed on the external drive or was it just for data?

The programs are installed on the external hard drive.

ahh I see. I don't know of a bulk way to reset the icons, just the one by one way. You don't even have to do it to all of them. Just reset the icons that you have on display.
