I purchased my first gaming PC a while back. I plan on upgrading in the future once I get money. I see that there is a new DDR4 ram out and I've seen that people recommend buying it if you plan to go Intel. via intel i7 5860x.

However, I plan on maybe purchasing thee I7 5860x or the i7 4790k. Would it be wise, to buy DDR4 along with these processors?

Future Purchases: Go intel, preferably i7 4790K or go big as in the I7 5860x. Plus a new Motherboard obviously.

A newer GPU. Nivida 980, or a newer version if any comes out. I atm have a amd 7870 ghz edition 2gb.

In the end, perhaps go for the i7 4790k and use the money i would of spent on the GPU. What do you guys think?

There is no 5860X, you mean 5960X.

Intel has 2 platforms for the desktop computer. Mainstream 1150 and Enthusiast 2011-3.

DDR4 is supported in 2011-3 (X99 chipset). i7 CPUs in that category are the 5820K, 5930K and 5960X.

LGA 1150 still uses DDR3 only. A CPU like the 4790K is not compatible with DDR4.
