hey everyone, on my work computers I'm trying to view the GPU usage, but I can't find a way that doesn't require a program being installed. IT has the systems locked down so I can't install anything. It has an AMD HD8490.

We just got a new mapping software that's kind of like CAD, but a much heavier graphical display, and the only upgrade they did to the computers despite me saying that's not the issue was going from 8gb of ram to 16gb... The program is painfully slow, and when it's fully implemented we cannot have the program running slow.

The system has an i7-4790, 16GB of ram, and the HD 8490.

if you can access the resource monitor on your system you will at least be able to show the cpu and ram usage levels along with disk queues and things. You could use this info to show that although the program is running slow, it is not down to any of the other parts being at 100%

how about running programs from usb is that workable?

Can you download the GPU-Z.exe and just run the program, you shouldn't need to install it.

Spoiler

I can view the resource monitor, and the CPU and RAM usages are always below 20%.

I can try running a program from a USB, I was thinking maybe installing afterburner on a USB stick and attempting that.

I tried running GPU-Z, and it requires admin rights to run..

Are you able to access CCC?

Should be able to monitor usage in there.  In AMD Overdrive there should be an activity monitor there.

For me that sounds like the only way that doesn't need admin rights

GPU names says everything you need to know- It can't do anything

I know... as soon as they swapped out computers I told them graphics will be an issue... we are running 1 2556x1600 monitors, and 2 1280x1024 off of it, so its so much slower than it has to be

It should be under "Performance"

can't figure out how to upload an image to the post without putting it on to another site first... lol

but I don't have that option on mine. the menu only shows:

pinned

presets

desktop management

common display tasks

my digital flat-panels

video

gaming

information

I don't know if its a dumbed down version because I don't have the Administrative rights on my account

You might have to enable advanced mode in preferences.

I'm starting to think I need administrative rights to view the Overdrive section... Advanced mode is enabled.. Maybe I can convince the IT person to allow the GPU-Z or something like that..
