M.2 SSD for OS/software?

I was going to originally use an ssd but my mobo supports m.2 (Msi gaming 5) so is it worth it for a boot/software drive.

You won't really notice the difference. IMO M.2 looks ugly at the moment since pretty much all the M.2 drives you'll find for a decent price compared to SATA drives, are green.
