Ok. I got a graduation gift of a Gtx 660, 1tb hdd, psu, and OS. My question is that I currently have a q6600 with a pcie 1 baord. I am thining not even using that and saving for one month and going for a new cpu mobo and ram. SHould I go with the g3258 or fx 6300. I am on a tight budget and in this budget is one more gtx 660 for sli. What cpu would be the best gamer with the sli 660s?

A Core i3 4130 (Or 4150), or you are going to be bottlenecked.

4130 with B81 or H81 and 4150 with B91 or H91 chipsets.

I would try to sell the 660 and go for something newer with the 4150, but I understand that want for SLI.

To be honest, one should NOT sli gtx 660. Just dump it inside you pc and be happy with it. When you can no longer stand the thing, upgrade; when that time comes, we can aid you.

But whatever you do, getting a second card is a TERRIBLE idea.

G3258 will be even worse then Q6600 for AAA gaming. FX-6300 is better but you're not leaving yourself much of an upgrade path, and AM3+ boards that support SLI aren't that cheap.

I wouldn't go with SLI with that low of a card. Don't get me wrong it's a good card but it's old and is kind of getting down on the upgrade area. If you can I would sell the 660 and get something better with that money.

2nd card is a great idea, mostly because you can't get much from selling a GPU. But in this case, SLI is not good.

what the hell are some of you going on about? A 660 is still a great card. I mean if you can get a second 660 for under 100 then yeah why not SLi it? it really it all comes down to what res/details you are going to be running games at. sure it wont be able to run GTA 5 @ 4k ultra. but 1080p med/high sure.

vRAM issues, and actual processing issues. Considering that 760s are getting normal-high. (Shadows on high, textures on normal with AA low or 2x)

The 660 is aging.

Thing is, SLI does NOT cost 100$ for the extra card. It costs the new card, + a new (expensive) mobo that supports SLI + a new CPU to power the aforementioned mobo.

If he already had a capable SLI setup, great, go for it! But that's not the case here.

What would you recommend? I saw it as most of the games I play are Dx11 and support sli. The SLI 660s would be between a 960 and 970 right? It is the same price as a 960 (For both cards total I can get one more for 75 and bring the total to 180) Thats still WAY cheaper than the 970. I dont care about power and sli does look damn cool. I am build this rig to upgrade in December and hand the cards off to someone else. I was looking at my budget and I was lookign at getting the z87 A and an i5 4690k with 8gb ram. Pairing that with one more 660 and upgrading to one 980 or something on black Friday IF I outgrow the setup. I am mostly use my workstation for editing and it works great.
