M.2 VS Sata SSDs

Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,

Can anyone tell me are there really that big of a difference in applications like video games or even start up timings? I dont wanna see benchmarks as i personally think they are quite misleading....

Hey xnoobftw,

The difference between SATA SSDs and SATA M.2 drives is only the form factor. Both drives would run similarly as they are pretty much SATA drives. Unless you are talking about a PCIe M.2 SSD, I would say they have similar performance and you wouldn't see any difference between them in gaming or everyday usage.
Both are good choice as they would give you a significant boost in loading times and overall performance and responsiveness of your system over using a regular HDD or a SSHD. :)

With your computer setup correctly and optimized for an SSD, Windows 7 boots in 10 seconds or less on Sata 6Gbps, and with Sata 1.5Gbps Windows XP loads in under 10 seconds (as long as your post times are instant or pretty close to instant). So I don't think you'd see that much of a difference if any normally, but perhaps if you had games with massive map files?
