So I need to get a new TV, preferably around £300 but £400 tops.

Needs a high refresh rate, anything 200hz...need those FPS; HDMI connections; size anywhere from 32" to 50"; smart TV capability including internet connection and maybe 3D.

Why do you need 200hz?

And I don't think HDMI supports 200hz

Doesn't need to be 200hz really just anuything above 60hz, since the one I'm using at the moment is locked to 59hz :/ Isn't the higher the refresh rate the more fps you will get...or have a completely misunderstood things? :S

there is no 200hz tv or monitor in existence

all tvs that advertise 240hz, 480hz, 960hz, etc... are all using backlight strobing to create the illusion of higher framerate

they only really do 60hz

and the "fake frame" high fps stuff they do to the image makes it look like crap when used with a computer, so thats why there is "game mode" or "PC" options that disable this crap

so basically youre only going to get a 60hz tv

if you want 120 or 14hhz, buy a gaming monitor

if you want anything above that, wait 5-10 years then ask again

High refresh rate TVs are actually really really bad for gaming... It doesn't mean the same thing at all as it does on monitors. See the FAQ for more detail, it's covered there in #7.

To protect yourself in future shopping, just be aware that there is no such thing as an LCD which operates at 240Hz+ (yes "LED" displays too, this is just a variation of LCD). The fastest available LCDs operate at 144Hz, maybe you can overclock them a little higher, but if you see ANY LCD on sale that says "240Hz" or anything higher, that's an immediate giveaway. They are not talking about refresh rate anymore, they are talking about something else. 240Hz+ LCDs DON'T EXIST, period.

Argos is selling a 42" 4k IPS panel Smart TV for around £430 if your budget can stretch a little. Might be worth looking into. Just Google LG 42" 4k, you'll find it with ease, can't remember model number.

Hmm, can't seem to find the deal :S Would you happen to have a link? :) Is the TV any good, also do you happen to know of any other similarly priced 4k TV's that are also IPS?

Thank you for the clarification, glad I asked before buying anything :) So should I just not go with a TV for gaming or are some of them still decent? I sort of need the larger screen size because I sit quite far away from it and it's my main screen :S

Normally you can turn the fake refresh rate off so it's not too big of a deal, just don't expect to get more than 60Hz :)

In general though TVs have higher latency and aren't as good for gaming.
