I have a 4790k overclocked at 4.7ghz and one 970 HOF at max oc on air cooling. Would the Corsair hx750i be enough for another 970 HOF at max oc or should I go with an 850W PSU.

You would be fine even with much lower wattages (depending on the other components in your system)

750 should be enough, if you can afford the 850watt version however it can't hurt. Slick just made a video that shows that while in most cases even lower wattages are enough, if you're overclocking a lot you may need the extra headroom.

650w is already plenty for a 970 sli. 750w is more than enough for oc'ing.

Well, in Luke's video the 850w psu couldn't hold 2 titan xs at the max oc by a couple of watts, whereas the 650 watt psu wasn't even close. Depending on how high he plans on overclocking it may be worth it, especially if it isn't much more expensive. And then there's the higher efficiency thing, which only matters to a point but is still nice to have.

The OP has 2 970's and not 2 Titan X's.

I know, and that's why 850 watts should be more than enough. Still, he's probably fine with 750 anyway.

850w is overkill. An oc'ed 3960x with a 970 sli at load draws under 450w: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-970-sli-review,4.html

Saw the title and thought op was talking about the 9590. Guess not.

600 gold or 750 bronze for sli. 850 for some more oc room.
