This is my first pc build please look over it at make sure that i didn't miss anything that i shouldn't have. Leave your opinion on what i missed and or how it could be better with out the cost.

My worries are the power supply i have heard mix reviews on it, it's also quite cheap to buy. Would it be better to go with the Corsair CS550M or the Antec HCG-520M? I do plan on over clocking both the CPU and GPU.

Next it the part about liquid cooling. I do plan to use this as a lan box so it will be moved around. Would it be better to just use a heat sink instead of liquid cooling? Would the performance sacrificed if i do go with a heat sink?

What's the system being used for?

Why a 144hz TN panel instead of a better looking IPS?

For mother board i suggest go for the gaming series of Asus i forgot the model but it has a tag called Pro Gaming or you can also go for the RoG it depends on your budget.
for the casing i suggest get a tower?  for better air flow and cable management, also in case you decided to upgrade few parts lets say you will go for Sli some day.

Intel Core i5 - 6400 <> Msi B150A Gaming Pro <> Msi Gtx 970 Gaming <> G.Skill Ripjaw 4 16Gb DDR4 2400mhz

<> Corsair CX500M <> 160 & 250 Seagate HDD <> Aerocool Strike X (Casing) <>

Is this just for gaming?

If so, drop down to an i5 4690k and 8gb of ram and use that money for a 980

The build is for an over all computer, videos, internet, gaming, hosting game servers then playing the game at the same time.

WoodMaker

Thanks for the info never knew about IPS. I have only used laptops before but they seem to cost more. sorry for posting in the wrong section my computer only loads the first forums.

I mainly used laptop in my life but they cost the same for 1/10th the power. I nomaly run everything on mid to low. So i will never be going sli. The build is also for portability i want to be able to transport it easily towers are big are hard to carry.

Are you carrying the system to LANs?

Since you listed simultaneous gaming and running a server, all while in a portable case for easy movement, this is what I would do:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($414.99 @ NCIX)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master GeminII M4 58.4 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($39.16 @ shopRBC)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($177.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($139.76 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($119.99 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($58.95 @ Vuugo)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card  ($404.99 @ NCIX)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case  ($44.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Power Supply: SeaSonic G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($89.68 @ DirectCanada)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($104.99 @ Canada Computers)
Monitor: Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor  ($348.95 @ Vuugo)
Keyboard: Logitech K120 Wired Standard Keyboard  ($8.99 @ NCIX)
Mouse: Logitech G502 Wired Optical Mouse  ($61.99 @ Canada Computers)
Total: $2014.92
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Notes: liquid cooling is always a bit overkill, and the Geminii fits nicely in the case, and the Elite 120 positions the PSU as a great exhaust fan right above the CPU cooler. You might want to change the direction of the CPU cooler fan though to make it work better though. Also, a mechanical keyboard is completely overhyped and unnecessary. That being said, a gaming mouse is super important and should not be skipped, hence the G502 which is widely regarded as having the best sensor in a mouse these days period. The PSU has to be a great unit able to work at slightly higher temps than normal since it's fan will be sucking heat out of the system instead of ambient heat, which is why I went with a better quality PSU. I was even able to save money while doing all of this so I was able to throw in an SSD as well. I kept your VG248QE because it's a great monitor that while TN, still has good color quality (not as good as IPS, but close) and the 144hz is pretty cool to have while gaming at those ultra framerates for fast moving games like CS:GO. If you don't play CS:GO primarily, then you may want to consider a 60hz IPS panel. Heck, that'd save you money too.

I don't need a mouse I have a razer deathadder, it works for a gamming mouse for now. I Also don't need an ssd right now just costs more money if you really insist I would go with WD Black2.

Questions on the motherboard, why? I don't really understand buying motherboards other than is it made good and does your shit fit.

I was also looking at the Gigabyte GA-Z97N-Gaming 5 Mini ITX LGA1150 or just go "overboard" and get the Asus Maximus VI Impact Mini ITX LGA1150?

Dont get the WD Black anything. It's all overpriced. The motherboard I chose because it has a six phase VRM design with a heatsink over the mosfets so it can handle the heat of overclocking better. All the cheaper boards didnt have that, and once you get that it's not worth spending more.

thanks for the info. But if you go with your SSD and HD it will cost $180, the WD Black2 its around $150 and comes with a 1tb HD and a 120SSD build in to it. Its a Two in one for less.

The performance of the SSD half isn't really anything to write home about and the drives I got you are a 3TB HDD and a 250GB SSD.  The Black2 is a 1TB HDD with a 120GB SSD. I could EASILY give you that combo for less than $150 and you'd get equal or better performance. Hell, I could do it for around $110 with equal or better performance. Again, WD Black anything is overpriced.

I would suggest a few changes.

  • Less expensive motherboard.
  • Less expensive memory.
  • An ssd.
  • The CX-600M is selling for a bit less than the CX-500M. They are decent and reliable psu.
  • A less expensive Windows 8.1 license.
  • An IPS panel monitor.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
