Hello,

My friend recently purchased an amd fx 8320  along with a gigabyte 990xa. It is running at 3.5 ghz but the vcore is default at 1.5 volts. We havent touched the bios, we even tried to reset it but it still has 1.5 vcore (At 3.5ghz). The voltage is set at auto and it still needs 1.5volt. We tried to set it to 1.450 volts , but the computer would boot up saying something like "Overclocking failed" in 2 words (It was saying something like that, and we had the option to load the default settings enter bios etc.) you get the point.

It looks like you've really gotten the bad end of the silicon lottery.

It looks like you've really gotten the bad end of the silicon lottery.

And now what can we do about it? Isnt the 1.5 voltage going to slowly kill the cpu? Plus, if we try returning it for malfunctioning, wouldnt they say that we touched the voltages so warranty void?

Never mention anything about overclocking when returning a CPU-there is no way to detect overclocking no matter what is said. And its an AMD FX, which can take higher voltages than Intel CPU's.

Well, dont you think 1.5 voltage is like WAY TOO HIGH for 3,5 ghz? If we return it, are there any chances it gets replaced?

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-8320.html

change ur settings to manual and try from there till u get a working setting

take everything off auto if its overvolting that badly

ur vrms are probably on fire if u dont got a good mobo

Granted it is too high, and its voltage should be enough grounds for a replacement, but occasionally you do get the odd CPU which has an extremely high stock voltage.
