Broadwell will be supported on Z97 with a bios update.

most z97 mobos got bios updates to work with broadwell

Well... not necessarily.  If Broadwell will work on Z97, it gives me a lot of faith that it will also work on Z87 and the like because it is the same LGA1150 socket.  These older mobos may require a BIOS update, just like Z97 will, so it makes sense that if it will work on Z97, then it will also work on Z87.  The caveat being that you need an already working out-of-the-box processor in order to apply the BIOS update.  I wouldn't buy one of these motherboards with the intention of plopping in a new Broadwell CPU because chances are it will not work without said BIOS update, and the difference between Broadwell, Devil's Canyon and even Haswell is minimal, except the on-board GPU which is supposed to be a nice improvement over Intel HD4600.
