I have a PS3 controller that I was hoping to use on my PC (for games like Borderland 2 on Steam) but I have looked at tutorials and I see there are 2 ways to set it up. They are Motionjoy (which apparently is horrible) and SCP which makes the game see all the buttons as if they are Xbox 360 buttons. Is there any way that I can make Borderlands display the PS3 buttons rather than the A, B, X and Y of the 360 controller?

in windows 8.1 it's a pain and you'll have to look into disabling driver sig enforcement. Install motionjoy drivers thru motionjoy, then use Better DS3 after plugging in your ps3 controller

There was another way without motionjoy that was MUCH better than motionjoy, cant remember what it was but it was a thread on some website.

I am using Windows 7 so I don't see how that has anything to do with 8.1 ... I was hoping to avoid Motionjoy if at all possible since I am hearing all of these horror storied about unremovable adware.

I tried that on Win 8.1 and it was a massive failure after hours of work and tons of shady, 3rd party programs. Just spend the $30USD and buy the 360 controller with the dongle, that what I wound up doing.

Unless you're a glutton for punishment....

Well you need the drivers from motionjoy either way. Or you'll have to install them manually. Better DS3 is what you should use though. I use it but I needed the motionjoy driver, and I'm on 8.1 so installing it was annoying.

SCP driver is the best, I use it all the time. however YOU CANNOT change the X,Y,A,B buttons into Triangle, X, circle and Square. On a game as you would need to reprogram the game with different pictures or something like that in the game. Altho if you are using the SCP Driver with Far Cry 4 it won't load certain things and you need to uninstall it which takes roughly 30 seconds, with no reboot.

Does the SCP driver emulate the controller as a 360 controller?

yea I believe so...to be honest am not sure. It loads some drivers into the computer along with the addition 360 hardware add-on from Microsoft. In a sense trick the PC into thinking that the PS3 controller is a 360 one.

Yes, vibration and everything else work perfectly fine .... I just find the display of 360 controls silly when i am using a PS3 one (even if I am using software to allow me to use the PS3 controls) ... I mean Windows even installs the drivers and sees it as a PS3 controller as soon as you plug it in ... yet they don't support plug-and-play just because it isn't one of their devices?

SCP drivers are the best from my experience. Light-weight, no annoying windows or ads, and just worked. As for the icons on screen, they have to be programmed into the games, and most people use X360 style controllers on PC so they only include X360 icons. Some games like Final Fantasy XIV do support PS3 icons, though.

When I bought the adapter for my PC to use my xbox controller on my PC it felt like it was always a little bit behind from what I was pressing, I didn't really enjoy it to much.  Maybe I did something wrong though?

No option of using a 360 or Xbox one controller? You just download the driver from Major Nelson's site or Microsoft's site and hook it up via USB.

Not unless the wireless 360 controller can hook up via its USB play-and-charge cable (which it can't). I'm not spending $ for a wireless receiver for the 360 controller when the PS3 controller works fine via USB cable ... I'd be more willing to buy a micro bluetooth reciever for $10 for my PS3 controller than $35+ for the 360's wireless receiver. To be brutally honest, the RB and LB on the 360 controller are a sad imitation of the R1 and L1 on the PS3 controller. At least that's my opinion on this ... But I asked for a way to change the buttons displayed in-game ... not to be asked why I don't just use a 360 controller.

Ouch. Well I guess everyone has their own opinion. I personally like having a simple wired connection to my Xbox one controller. I've tried it before and it seems just fine. I disagree with you on the imitation part. As much as I love Playstation products, their controller was just way too small and uncomfortable to me. I do not even have big hands and it felt too small. The 360 and Xbox One controllers are literally the most comfortable controllers I have ever experienced with their finely made grips and anti-sweat materials. The PS4 controller is leaps and bounds better than the PS3 controller though, and I say it is on par with the X one controller.

I'm going to punch your face- IN THE FACE.
