Hey there fellow LMG followers!

 

I am currently in the process of buying a new microphone and I am wondering if this will work?

 

Computer --> USB to XLR cable ---> Behringer PS400 Micropower Phantom Power Supply ---> XLR Cable ---> Audio Technica At 2020 Cardioid Condensor Microphone

Isn't the AT2020 already got USB connection?

 

Anyway, USB = digital data, XLR = analog data. So there is no such thing as USB to XLR. Even if you force it by building your own DIY cable, it won't work.

You can get an XLR version of the At 2020 and you can buy a USB to XLR cable off amazon so I don't know now...?

It comes either way. For me I would get the XLR version as I already have other XLR mics and recording and live sound gear, but if you don't get the usb version. IF you are going to add more recording gear you could get the XLR but you would need something like this PreSonus AudioBox USB or this Shure X2U XLR-to-USB Signal Adapter but it would be more expensive than just getting the USB version as the XLR and USB version cost about the same.

Why don't you just keep things simple and get the USB version. Otherwise you'll need an audio interface in order to get quality.

Why not get a Scarlett 2i2? USB connection to your PC and it comes with 2 XLR inputs, headphone out, and line output. If you need even more XLR inputs then get the 2i4.
