my specs:

gigabyte z87x-ud3h

intel core i5 4670

g-skill sniper 8gb 1866

evga nex650g

nzxt havik 140

so first i did an external build and it didnt work, no signal whatsoever. fans spin up for a sec, debug blinks for a sec also (couldn't make anythin out) then nothing. so i tried cmos and flipped the bios switch right next to the power button.

fans started spinning and i could enter the bios. then i thought everything would work and mounted it into my case, wired everything up and tried to boot. but it does the same thing as before. tried cmos etc. and nothing

i'm getting really frustrated, i don't really know what the problem is everything seemed to work? its most probably the mobo

is there anyone who has an idea about whats going on?

thanks

that sort of thing happens on gigabyte boards when overclocks fail. It's possible that you got a DOA chip.

If you return your chip to the place where you bought it (especially if it was from a store) it would be an easy fix.

But its also possible that you didn't plug in all of the power connectors properly. The system is on an extremely light load when in the bios. I am still banking on it being the CPU though. Check and see what the temps are when you can post in the bios again.

so it is probably the processor?

the problem is it wont even go that far to start the bios. the last time i was in the bios the cpu temp was about 39 degrees.

When I was overclocking my 2600k on a gigabyte board, it would let me post into the bios at 5.1 Ghz but it would freeze about 30 seconds in.

The temps were low but it wasn't stable. I had to eventually use the arrow keys really fast to switch tabs in the bios to get it back to defaults, then save the bios and reboot.

My guess is that your chip is just bad and it can't handle the stock clocks, therefor sometimes it isn't posting. When it does post, it isn't stable enough for the bios.

But I could be wrong. I am not there to troubleshoot it. It could be a loose cable that is just barely out of the slot. If you wiggle your machine it might make contact and the system will boot, or it might move further out of the slot. Its really random with custom computers.

Take the computer out of the case, and build it like a test bench. Firmly press all the cables in, but not too hard. Only use one stick of ram to get the system set up, then add more once everything is working.

You make sure you didn't bend any pins in the cpu socket? Symptoms you describe are similar to those with bent mobo pins

Nevermind seems you were able to post at one point.

I have the exact same problem and found out what the issue is.  I too am using the gigabyte z87x-ud3h mobo and the evga nex650g psu.  Initially I had thought it was a defective motherboard and brought it back to NCIX to have it looked at.  When they hooked up the motherboard on their test bench, everything worked.  So I figured it must have been the psu, I brought that in and when they hooked it up to my motherboard the fans would spin for only 1 second.  They immediately concluded that it was the psu and gave me a new one.  When I hooked up the replacement psu to the motherboard the "exact" same problem happened again.  I then hooked up another psu to the motherboard and everything is fine.  I then tried the evga nex650g on another computer and that worked too!!!  LOL, seeing how you have the same issue, it is reasonable to assume that there is some kind of compatibility issue between the z87x-ud3h and the evga nex650g. :(
