Hey there
I have a okunderstanding of what parts are good, but not neccessarily what is good for what i need without going overboard. I also am new to understanding compatibility of parts.

1. Budget
So far I have a budget of 800$usd, and im planning to save up to maybe 1.5k, with a little wiggle room if neccesseary.

2. Aim
There a few things i need to be able to accomplish with this computer. I have a laptop that has been pushed over its limits on a daily basis and is basically on its last legs. On my new rig, I would like to be able to
a. play games at a high quality,
b. stream high quality games at a high quality, and also meaning having a silent computer
c. I also partake in graphic design, And will probably move into 3d designs and potentially animations, so a computer with good rendering ability

3. Parts I've picked out (if you think i need something different/better let me know, a friend made this list for me)

I know i still need, ram, i want liquid cooling/ or quiet fans, an optical drive, and im not sure what else. so is what i have good for what i need so far? and what else do i need?
Thanks for any and all help

Use PCPartPicker next time. I think this would be the baseline of what you need, and you could always add another 970 if you want.

On a side note, your choice for Mobo/Case is totally fine too, but your PSU while enough it's limited you from upgradeing to SLI later on.

I like your list :P, i might stick with my case, not a huge fan of red lol, i was thinking that my psu was a bit on the smaller side, soo thanks for that tip, but could you explain what you meant by SLI?

I figure the reason you go with your mobo in the first place was because of that. Just change everything to match your color choice then. You may want a different color RAM, Mobo.... get this one instead since it support SLI, your current choice doesnt: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97ssliplus

  • 2 weeks later...

Are you going to overclock?

My friend told me i should, but im not entirely sure if i should. Ive never had a desktop before, and i have never overclocked before. I hear overclocking, even tho it  increases preformance, shortens the lifespan. tho i dont know if ithat information pertains to just the proccessor, or to other parts as well. I havent looked into overclocking yet.

Oc'ing can lower the lifespan but it's like going from a lifespan of 10+ years to 5+ years if voltages and temps are kept in check. If you're not into oc'ing, it's usually not worth it.

I see you're buying from microcenter. Do you have one nearby or were you just going to buy online?

This system will smash through every game you throw at it, as well as being very good in editing/cad workloads. It will also be very quiet, with the main output of heat being the GPU and Asus's STRIX series having very good thermals and little noise.

+1 The parts he picked are perfect for what u need.

If you are not going to OverClock at all then there is no need to get the Inter core i7 4790k since it supports overclocking.

I don't like the case though but everything else is great. There is enough Multithreading for u to render ur videos and enough clock speed for gaming and streaming.

However the Motherboard does not support SLI which means u won't be able to get a second GPU and have two running at the same time.

It does support Crossfire but since u r getting GeForce GTX 970 or 980 u need a motherboard that supports SLI so u would be able to expand in the future to 2 or even 3 GPUs if you'ed want. So I'm suggesting to get a Z97 motherboard if u r interested in multi GPUs.

Have a nice day

Yeah I have a microcenter about 15 minutes away from me.

I like thats its quiet, the red/orange thing is kind of a minus for me. Blue is my favorite :P.  I'll try to do a little digging to see if i can find blue or black verisions of these parts of equal quality, and maybe see if i can find cheaper parts anywhere.

I noticed you mentioned you planned to save up $1.5K? Are you not planning to build soon?

well, I do have a laptop right now, but it doesnt have the power to handle anything I want to. It has crashed from me pushing it to its limits. I do not have a job at the moment, just 800$ from what I have saved. I have been doing some small art projects in between jobs to get more cash, I wish I could say I was building as soon as possible, cause I need a new computer, but i dont want to cheap out on something that I need to be able to use for years.

Will that list be able to handle everything I need to do?

Sure other than the silence thing. It'd be very quiet though.
