Ram running at under default speed.

Go to solution Solved by 79 Potatoes,

I'm using a pentium g3258. But I was using a z87 motherboard and I was able to run the ram at 1600mhz with the same cpu.

That's the problem. That cpu only supports up to 1333 Mhz. I think that in non-z mbs it only allows up to 1400 Mhz (at least what I could set in a H81 mb when updating BIOS with a G3220)

In Z series mb you can go beyond that limit because it's an overclocking platform

I have an msi h97i AC which claims to have xmp support on msi's website. It also says it supports 1600 mhz ram and you can overclock the ram quite a bit. I have 1x8gb 1600mhz kingston memory and it's running at 1333 mhz. When I go to dram frequency in the bios, the highest option it gives me is 1400 mhz. I just want it to run at 1600 mhz. Is there any way to fix this?

I don't know how to. I can't find the setting for it.

It should be under the OC category. It may be called Extreme Memory Profile(X.M.P). Make sure to enable that and also note that what it is under changes from manufacturer and motherboard. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7364/memory-scaling-on-haswell/2

I don't have that option in my overclocking tab. I also have the latest bios and msi claims this motherboard has xmp. A jayztwocents video said the same thing but I don't have the option.

Does your CPU imc support those frequencies?
