i am wondering if this laptop  cpu 

 

ntel® Core™ i7-5500U Processor 
(4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz) it has nivida 850 4 gb graphics card 

will be for gaming and video and photo editing 

 my only only concern it say dual core but its an i7 please share thoughts and advice?

It IS a dual core. As is common with mobile i7s

it is a hp i ordered have not yet received it 

all the other specs seem nice nividia 850 4 gig graphics blu ray etc

just wasn't sure it a dual core laptop cpu would be ok? it says 5th generation  

hoping it be ok for for games and my daughter like edit photos and videos

Casual gaming should be okay but video work will take longer. You may find the 5500U throttles due to HP locking it down to 15W but shouldn't be too bad and at least it should run cool.

 

Seems to me HP prices are a little high for what is offered performance wise, at least from the prices I've seen where an older quad core 4th gen with better graphics card can be had for around the same price. For rendering with say Cinebench 11.5 the 5500U can score 3.3 while a low end 4th gen quad core such as the 4700MQ can score 7.6, over twice that of the dual core.

 

FWIW the fifth gen CPU has been shown able to support IMM 16GB SODIMM so should you have a need to use 32GB RAM with 2 slots it's a possibility providing HP have allowed it in the BIOS.
